Ones to Watch
Ones to Watch is aimed at passionate and dedicated young film-lovers and filmmakers aged 18 to 24.
Participants learn about the distribution and exhibition side of the film industry and receive hands on training in curating and delivering an exhibition programme of regular film screenings and showcase events.
The young programmers develop practical leadership skills in film festival and event programming and producing, marketing, reviewing and event management as well as an opportunity to be mentored by and network with creative teams from some of the leading festival film festivals across Northern Ireland and the UK.
The participants have the opportunity to put what they've learnt into practice with projects such as Cinema Day and Movies in Mind. Cinema Day, an initiative presented by Film Hub NI and supported by Northern Ireland Screen, is a day of free or low cost screenings around Northern Ireland. In 2018, the Ones to Watch team organised the screening of two Spielberg classics, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, in the Nerve Centre cinema.
Movies in Mind is a series of talks and short film screenings on research and impact in the areas of mental health and the role that film and creative arts has in promoting awareness and resilience. As part of this one-day festival, the Ones to Watch team programmed a number of free film screenings dealing with mental health.
The programme is delivered by the Nerve Centre and funded through Film Hub NI as part of BFI Film Audience Network supported by National Lottery.
