Beyond the Walls
International art project examining how conflicts have changed the physical landscape of cities such as; Dubrovnik, Baghdad and Belfast.
Beyond the Walls, a partnership between the Nerve Centre and the Culture Company's BT Portrait of a City project, examined how conflicts have changed the physical landscape of cities such as; Dubrovnik, Baghdad and Belfast. It brought together works by Camerawork, Willie Doherty, Wade Goddard, Clive Limpkin, Homer Sykes, Kai Weidenhoffer, and photographers who lived in Derry~Londonderry throughout the conflict.
The exhibition included a continuation of new works from the Picturing Derry project, photographs by Camerawork, Willie Carson, Larry Doherty, Willie Doherty, Eamon Melaugh, Barney McMonagle, Brian J Gill, Clive Limpkin, Homer Sykes; Broken Lights of Yugoslavia, a war photo exhibition by Emmanuel Ortiz who from 1991 to 1999 documented the battle in the region of former Yugoslavia; work in the gallery and at Free Derry Wall by Kai Wiedenhöfer, who since 2006 has been photographing peace-lines, security walls and international boundary fences and walls that separate people worldwide.
