Animate a Mother’s Day Card (Age 8-11)
In this workshop, participants will learn how to program a short animation with a Mother’s Day theme. Using Scratch, we will create an animated Mother’s Day card complete with movement, text and sound.
For this workshop you will need: mobile/tablet or laptop device, preferably with a large screen.
Date: Thursday 11 March, 3pm-4pm.
App Prototyping Using Keynote (Age 11-16)
This workshop will introduce participants to app prototyping. Participants will learn how to design and create a simple app using Keynote on an iPad. Once tried and tested, participants will use Shortcuts app on the iPad to launch their app from their Home Screen.
For this workshop you will need: mobile phone/tablet or laptop to access the Zoom session, access to an iPad with Keynote and Shortcut apps installed.
Date: Tuesday 16 March, 3pm-4pm.
Animate a Greeting Card (Age 8-11)
In this workshop, participants will learn how to program a short animation for a greeting card. Using Scratch, we will create an animated greeting card complete with movement, text and sound.
For this workshop you will need: a computer or mobile device with Zoom installed, preferably with a large screen.
Date: Tuesday 22 March, 3pm-4pm.
Digital Photography & Editing Techniques (Age 13-18)
This workshop explores digital photography principles and how to develop exciting editing skills to transform photos into works of art. Participants will explore the work of famous photographers and gain insights into the techniques they used. Participants will also learn how to position people for portraits, and how to use natural light to the best advantage in photography. The workshop will use free apps such as snapseed and vsco for the editing element, and enlight photofox for experimenting with double exposure and other effects.
For this workshop you will need: mobile phone/tablet or laptop to access the Zoom session, access to a mobile device with snapseed, vsco and enlight photofox installed. If you want to work alongside the workshop you may need two devices, or you may be able to have two windows open on one device.
Date: Monday 22 March 2021, 3pm-4pm.
Mandalas for Mindfulness – Creating Digital Mandalas Using Sketchpad (Age 9-12)
A mandala is an abstract circular design. Mandalas generally have one identifiable centre point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and forms. In this workshop participants will learn how to create a mandala, and how different shapes and colours can be used to express a mood or feeling.
For this workshop you will need: mobile phone/tablet or computer to access the Zoom workshop. If you want to work in Sketchpad alongside the workshop you may need two devices, or you may be able to have two windows open on the one device.
Date: Tuesday 23 March, 3pm-4pm.
Building a Moon Outpost in Minecraft Education Edition (Age 8-11)
In this workshop participants will be introduced to the basics of Minecraft, and will be given the opportunity to explore a biome (Minecraft geographic region) using a device of your choice. Participants will be shown building techniques and discuss appropriate materials in order to plan and build a moon outpost in a Mesa Biome.
For this workshop you will need: a device with a working version of Minecraft Education Edition and an active Minecraft Education Edition account, OR a PC/Mac, Xbox/Playstation or mobile device with Minecraft installed.
Date: Wednesday 24 March, 3pm-4pm.
Pixilart Portraits (Age 9-12)
Participants will learn to create their own portrait using Pixilart, an online digital art app used to create and share pixel art. Participants will be able to create a series of portraits, including their own avatar or game character.
For this workshop you will need: mobile phone/tablet or laptop to access the Zoom session and Pixilart website. If you want to work alongside the workshop you may need two devices, or you may be able to have two windows open on one device.
Date: Thursday 25 March, 3pm-4pm.
Sound for Film (Age 8-11)
This workshop will introduce participants to the world of sound for film. Participants will be shown the building blocks of a soundtrack: music, dialogue, sound effects, ambient noise and sound FX. They will also learn basic editing techniques used in most audio software. Participants will get the chance to record and edit their own effects during the session.
For this workshop you will need: access to a web browser from a desktop or laptop computer.
