Music making

Digital Summer Camp: Making Music with Chrome Music Lab

Wednesday 29 Jul 2020 - 10:00am to 1:00pm

A fun online music making workshop for 7-11 year olds.

Join us and start your own musical adventure!

This online workshop will take you on a tour around Chrome Music Lab, free online software that helps you learn about music and sound, and a fun way to start making your own music. Create a soundtrack for a film or game, a theme tune for your favourite character, or any kind of music you like, it’s up to you!

We’ll start with some music and listening activities, match different musical styles with various animals and characters, and talk about the ‘elements of music’ - everything you need to help you get started on your musical journey.

We will then show you the features of ‘Song Maker’ and to use this tool to make your very own music. We’ll think about how to choose instruments, create rhythms, write melodies, and how to complete your track.

What you need:

  • Any device with Internet access and access to Zoom
  • Google Chrome browser installed (Chrome Music Lab works best in this browser)
  • Headphones (optional)

This workshop is suitable for children aged between 7 and 11 years old. It will begin with a live* session at 10am. Participants will then have time to complete a creative activity. Another live session will complete the workshop and end at approximately 1pm.

Participants must be resident in Northern Ireland. A parent/guardian/care provider must register their child/children and be present during the workshop. Maximum of 3 participants per household.

*Zoom Pro will be used for live sessions.
