EVENT | Declan McLaughlin live at Nerve Centre
Folk singer/songwriter Declan McLaughlin performs live at Nerve Centre, the latest in our series of online gigs.
Declan McLaughlin is a folk singer/songwriter from Derry. Declan started playing music in his teens, where he recalls he ‘wasn’t skilled enough to play the songs of others, so I started writing my own, and I think I got better and better, I tell myself that’.
Declan’s early career in music included forming the rock band the Screaming Bin Lids and The Whole Tribe Sings, before embarking on a successful solo career that has taken him ‘to places that a skinny working-class wee boy out of Derry could never have dreamed’. He has toured across Europe, North America and Australia, playing world-famous venues including CBGBs in New York City, Vicar Street Dublin, the Cork Opera House, and the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC.
He has released numerous albums over the years to critical acclaim. His most recent, The Path of Most Resistance, was released in December 2020. ‘Some of the songs have been kicking about years and needed finishing, some are new, some written for friends in the America about America … I like to think my songs are well dressed and ready. Just good stories with a start middle and an end, and some of them are true.’
In June 2021, Declan will be at Nerve Centre for a special online performance.
The gig will be streamed on Facebook and YouTube on Friday, 4 June at 8pm. Sign up to our Live Music Mailing List to be sent a link when the set goes live.
