BFI Film Academy is very excited to present a unique opportunity for all of those interested in pursuing a career in writing.

In conjunction with BBC Writersroom, and as part of their ongoing strand of developing new film making talent, they will be inviting you to join them for a zoom meeting with the Writersroom’s newly appointed Assistant Commissioner for Northern Ireland, Heather Larmour.

Heather worked with BBC Northern Ireland’s Drama department as a Radio Drama Producer for a number of years, most notably on the radio adaptions of Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere (starring Benedict Cumberbatch and James McAvoy) and also the audio adaption of Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens. She then moved to work in TV at Kudos where she was a Development Executive and mostly recently a Script Editor across several of the company’s productions.

This new post is an exciting development for the BBC Writersroom and a next stage in the BBC’s promotion and development of new writing talent. You will also get a chance to chat with Cathy Quinn, the Northern Irish Writersroom co-ordinator who will explain how you can get involved in their work.

The BBC Writersroom is a small team based within Drama Commissioning at the BBC, dedicated to discovering, developing, and championing new and experienced writing talent from across the whole of the UK. These include regional writing groups such as Belfast Voices, national development drives such as the yearly Drama and Comedy Drama writersrooms and a host of smaller opportunities such as free talks, webinars, script libraries and focused competitions.

This session is a must for all of those interested in writing and is open to any level of age or experience.
The event will be hosted on zoom and places must be booked to receive the zoom link for entry.

BFI Film Academy Labs are delivered in Northern Ireland by the Nerve Centre in partnership with Queens Film Theatre and Film Hub NI. BFI Film Academy is supported by the National Lottery.  BFI Film Academy Labs is proud to be able to host this event as part of the 2021 Foyle International Film Festival.
