Foyle Film Festival is delighted to once again collaborate with Foyle Pride to deliver an extended series of specially curated films as part of this year's Foyle Pride Festival. This year's Foyle Film Festival Summer Programme also marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots that sparked the beginning of the Gay Rights movement.

In a dilapidated hotel room in Paris, Oscar Wilde lies on his deathbed. The past comes flooding back, taking him on a poignant journey through his past to other times and places. From the time he was the toast of London society to his downfall when he was crucified by a public that once loved and adored him. The Happy Prince is particularly strong on the horrifying homophobic prejudice that Wilde suffered during his downfall - notably in the heart-breaking sight of Wilde the convict being spat at on a station platform while on the way to jail. This is a portrait of the dark side of a genius who lived and died for love.

“Conveys the spirit of the man. I found myself terribly moved by it.” - Merlin Holland, Oscar Wilde’s grandson

“A deeply felt rendering of an artist at the very end of his tether.” - Trevor Johnston, Radio Times
