STORY | The 34th Foyle Film Festival Back On The Big Screen!

Northern Ireland's only Oscar® affiliated festival launches with the NI Premiere of Clifford: The Big Red Dog. The story of young Emily who is struggling at school and at home. Then she meets a magical animal rescuer who gives her a red puppy, Clifford, who quickly grows into a supersized dog in response to the size of Emily's love.

As usual, the programme includes a number of music documentaries that are both celebratory and inspiring.

Phil Lynott: Songs For While I'm Away is the story of how a young black boy from working class 1950's Dublin, became Ireland's greatest Rock Star.

While Breaking Out pays homage to Fergus O’Farrell - the charismatic voice of Interference, one of the most compelling and influential bands to emerge from the Irish music scene in the 1990's. He was best known for his timeless song "GOLD" which featured in the soundtrack to Once, the Oscar® winning film and multi-Tony-award-winning musical. Despite being diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at a young age, through it all, Fergus had to keep singing. His unique talent and love for life inspired a generation of songwriters, even as his own was slipping away.

FFF's Oscar® and BAFTA affiliated Light In Motion (LIM) Short Film Competition showcases the best films from around the world. Alligned to LIM is the annual Shorts To Features Conference with industry guests in attendance to pass on their knowledge and skills to a new generation. Among this year's guests are Director/Writer David Freyne whose award-winning second feature, Dating Amber is a platonic romantic comedy that sees two queer high school students Eddie (Fionn O’Shea) and Amber (Lola Petticrew) at different stages of self-acceptance, pretend to be a couple in order to avoid any speculation from their peers.
