Creative Learning Centres Develop New Approach to Support Teachers in Online Learning

The Creative Learning Centres are made up of teams from Nerve Centre in Derry~Londonderry, Nerve Belfast and the AMMA Centre in Armagh and have provided cutting edge training, resources and advice to teachers for more than a decade. The team specialises in offering support in creative technologies and how they can be incorporated into the classroom to make learning more engaging for pupils.

Following the results of a regional survey completed by teachers, the Creative Learning Centres have adopted a new model resulting in a series of sell-out online programmes.

Sharon Tosh, Education Manager of Nerve Centre in Derry~Londonderry, said, 'We are delighted with the response to our new online programmes and look forward to rolling out many more over the coming months.

'We have also launched a dedicated YouTube channel and created a closed Facebook Group ‘CLC NI’ for teachers to provide that extra level of personalised support,' she added.

In addition to its regional programmes, the Creative Learning Centres are also working internationally, partnering with four other organisations in Poland, Czech Republic and Portugal to deliver the new ‘Shortcut’ project, funded through the EU’s Creative Europe programme. Centered on Citizen Education through film at Key Stage 3 , the project will give teachers from each partner country access to a unique database of short films, learning resources and education activities for the classroom.

If you are a teacher and would like to receive news and updates on upcoming opportunities and courses with the Creative Learning Centres, sign up to their mailing list and join their closed Facebook group which is a space dedicated to sharing updates, ideas and resources.

The Creative Learning Centres are independent and non-commercial, funded by the Department for Communities through Northern Ireland Screen and inspected by the Education Training Inspectorate. They operate as impartial centres of advice and knowledge around technology and learning for both schools and communities across Northern Ireland. The Creative Learning Centres exist to provide resources, guidance and support around developing Northern Ireland's future classrooms today.
