Cinematic Companion Piece to Colin Davidson’s Silent Testimony To Screen in Derry

Cinematic Companion Piece to Colin Davidson’s Silent Testimony To Screen in Derry

From Director Brendan J. Byrne (Bobby Sands: 66 Days), the film combines Davidson’s 18 portraits, with the spoken words of some of the victims and survivors of the Troubles, featured in the paintings.

Colin Davidson, Brendan Byrne and Alan McBride from WAVE will attend the presentation and take part in a post-screening discussion.

Since it was first shown at the Ulster Museum in 2015, Silent Testimony has received widespread popular and critical acclaim – with the power of the images provoking sorrow, reflection and optimism in audiences, and connecting with people across Europe.

The exhibition is currently on show at the Nerve Visual Gallery, through a partnership between the Nerve Centre, National Museums NI and WAVE Trauma Centre.

Hear My Voice is centred on a special hanging of the exhibition in a former ironworks building in Belfast City Centre, Riddel Warehouse. Complemented by an original classical score by composer Brian Byrne, the beautiful cinematography of Richard Kendrick and the skilful editing of Greg Darby, the film is a cinematic tribute to those who suffered loss as a result of the Troubles.

Each of the portrait sitters is linked by profound loss, with their own unique story to tell. The sheer scale and detail of the portraits allows for close examination of the lines, brush strokes and layers of paint that make up the subjects’ faces, their eyes and expressions.

Tickets for Hear My Voice on August 9 at 7pm are now on sale from https://nervecentre.ticketsolve.com/shows/873592646 or the Nerve Centre box office.

The showing of Silent Testimony at the Nerve Visual Gallery is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

The exhibition will run until 16 September 2018. Admission is free.
