City of Culture 2013
Nerve Centre and Culture NI, in partnership with Culture Company, delivered the digital and social media campaign for Derry~Londonderry's landmark year as first UK City of Culture in 2013.
Digital platforms played a major role in building audience engagement for the Derry~Londonderry 2013 programme. With a weekly reach up to 500,000 people per week; through social media, a weekly e-newsletter, the City of Culture website and YouTube channel the digital campaign achieved outstanding levels of interaction and engagement.
It was an unprecedented year for events and arts projects across the city, with Nerve Centre having a direct hand in promoting the likes of the Turner Prize in Derry for the first time, BBC Radio One's Big Weekend, the Return of Colmcille and Lumiere festival.
There was also a raft of activity at the Nerve Centre outside our digital department which formed a key part of the 2013 programme. Things such as Musician-in-Residence, Neil Cowley, and the SYNC Music Promise initiative, Willie Doherty: UNSEEN and Picturing Derry exhibitions, the Digital Book of Kells, BBC Radio One Academy and much more that contributed to the calendar of arts and creativity happening in Derry.
City of Culture 2013 at Nerve Centre
The innovative work of Nerve Centre was recognised following the City of Culture year with wins for Best Use of Digital and/or Social Media at both the Northern Ireland Tourism Awards and the Belfast Telegraph Business Awards.
There was praise for our breadth of activity, the number of channels used to drive such a large programme of events and the impressive results achieved given the challenges of marketing the UK City of Culture worldwide.
The online buzz created was in vital in telling Derry~Londonderry’s new story to the world and changing negative perceptions of the city, both internally and externally, to positive ones. The digital content that was created throughout the year has left an indelible digital footprint and a colourful record of the many achievements in 2013.
