World Music Star Rokia Traore To Play The Nerve Centre

One of the leading luminaries of the world music scene, Rokia Traore will be appearing at the Nerve Centre on Saturday November 9 as part of the UK City of Culture celebrations.

Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Rokia Traore is equally celebrated for her albums and live shows, which Time Out have said is 'arguably the most exciting, most thrilling live African music show around.'

She was the first artist to be announced for the 2013 Glastonbury festival, and she headlined WOMAD on July 27. Her new album Beautiful Africa was released, to rave reviews, in April on Nonesuch Records.

Graeme Farrow, Culture Company’s Executive Programmer, said: 'We have tried to present a wide variety of quality music for all tastes within many genres throughout the year.

'It is a bit of a coup to welcome Rokia Traore to the city for her only date on the island. Rokia is the queen of African music right now and one of the best live acts on the planet.'

Tickets for the show cost £16.50 including booking fee and are available from the Culture Company box office at www.millenniumforum.co.uk

"Rokia Traore is indeed a remarkable artist, and it is difficult to think of anyone else who can switch from ancient Malian culture to acting and then to African rock and roll." Robin Denselow, The Guardian

"A real original" ***** The Observer
