Songwriters Supercharge Their Muse With NoCry2

The Nerve Centre was transformed into a creative hot house as NoCry2 MUSE hosted an intensive two-day song writing workshop in December. The workshops, which pushed songwriters creative talents to the max, honed the creativity, composition and collaboration skills of musical masters and novices alike, with the direction of specially appointed mentors.

The mentors, who have worked or been involved in the music industry for years included: Cahir O’Doherty of Jetplane Landing and Fighting with Wire, renowned musicians Paddy Nash and Ruairi O’Doherty, as well as Glenn Rosborough who can be seen on TV screens with Katy B as music mentor in BBC 1's Music City.

Through a series of creative sessions, the mentors guided participants on writing collaboratively and shared their own song writing inspirations, before composing and recording a total of eight original tracks with the promising musicians.

During the workshops, budding young talents from the Nerve Centre’s SYNC Music Promise initiative also joined programme for the opportunity to develop their own song writing techniques, resulting in several unique compositions which are sure to cement their status as the new breed of Northern Irish music.

Mentor, Glenn Rosborough said ‘I really enjoyed working with Music Promise students, Rebecca and Jessica during the NoCry2 MUSE workshops. It was a great opportunity for me to collaborate with some of the best young musicians in the city, and I felt the intense creative time frame enabled us to focus on the tools and core ideas of song writing which can be all too often over looked.’

Leanne Doherty said ‘It was great to work with Cahir O' Doherty and see how collaborative song writing worked. Over the two days, our group came together to write, produce and record a song and I’m looking forward to using these skills in my own song writing.‘
