Register Now for MTV’s Free Music Academy at Nerve Centre

Following the record-breaking Ebrington ticket release, MTV will host a free one-day Academy at the Nerve Centre for young people interested in a career in the music business.

Taking place next Thursday, August 28, the workshop is a fantastic opportunity for 16-25 year olds to learn from those at the top of their game in the industry as well as to gain a rare insight into the broadcasting giant’s inner workings.

Registered attendees will hear from top MTV executives including Virginia Monaghan, Vice President of Music Commissioning and Content, on the network’s channels, events and more in addition to an exclusive ‘Behind the Scenes’ Q&A on TV and how to get on it with Director of International Social Responsibility Beth Garrod.

MTV’s founding format will be the focus of the afternoon with expert panels programmed by Generator NI analysing the music video’s journey from script, to screen, to sales as well as a broader discussion about the power of moving image in music.

Guest speakers range from award-winning director Stephen Agnew, whose videos for Crystal Castles, The Vaccines and Royal Blood have been screened around the globe, to Brendan Canty of Feel Good Lost, a firm that’s provided visuals for Hozier, AlunaGeorge and Virgin EMI to name a few.

Also on hand will be Caroline Bottomley of Radar Videos, a former showcase festival that now helps directors, labels managers and artists get the best value for money while Warner Records UK’s Sam Seager co-commissioned last year’s most watched video (Naughty Boy’s ‘La La La’) and is now working on album campaigns for Lily Allen and Coldplay.

Amongst panelist Sophia Ray’s current clients at production group Nice & Polite is indie sensation Jake Bugg while motion design, filming and editing are just some of the things Oisin O’Brien of Belfast creative company DSNT will offer an expert say on.

Those who sign up can also enjoy live performances from acclaimed solo artist Glenn Rosborough along with up-and-coming singer-songwriter Jessica Doherty, breaking up the morning and afternoon sessions over lunch. A chance to direct questions to the panel of experts will then round out the day’s talks.

Places for the MTV Music Academy are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis. Register free here.
