Nerve Centre Facilities Ready For The Legacy

Ilex, the urban regeneration company for Derry~Londonderry has supported the Nerve Centre to enhance its creative learning facilities thanks to £80,296 of funding from Ilex through the Department for Social Development’s UK City of Culture Capital Infrastructure Fund.

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said: 'My Department’s investment in this project will provide improved facilities for the existing users of the Nerve Centre.  The enhancement of the existing facilities will enable a range of external organisations and cultural practitioners to make use of the premises to host their activities and will benefit numerous children and young people from all communities'.

Ilex’s Cultural Broker Caoimhín Corrigan said'With the benefit of this investment through Ilex, the Nerve Centre has played a key role in the City of Culture year, establishing the SYNC Music programme and supporting schools with Creative Digital Classrooms as well as many other projects.  The funding has improved a number of rehearsal rooms, creating the ideal facilities for the Music Promise for individuals, bands and music tuition. It has given everyone the opportunity to develop their creative skills, and provided ideal facilities for students as part of Ilex’s commitment to help ensure a lasting legacy'.

Pearse Moore, Chief Executive of the Nerve Centre added '2013 has been a whirlwind of a year for the Nerve Centre. We would not have been able to meet the needs of our centre’s users nor achieve our more ambitious projects without this essential capital investment. Ilex and DSD have ensured the Nerve Centre remains at the vanguard of creative learning in our city for years to come'.
