The Humble Market at the Nerve Centre

By 2020 the world will be officially more Brazilian. Are you ready?

The Humble Market comes to Derry~Londonderry between September 7 - 9 with a series of unique concerts and an outdoor performance at the Paralympics closing ceremony.

The Humble Market and the Nerve Centre are bringing BBC3 Club World award-winner Brazilian DJ Dolores with his new partnership Stank to perform intimate gigs to small groups of guests right in the middle of a virtual Rio Carnival.

On September 7 and 8, the audience can sign up for an intimate 10 minute gig with DJ Dolores as part of a unique installation at the Nerve Centre providing a musical and visual treat that will take you right to the very heart of the Rio Carnival to help you get ready for a more Brazilian world in 2020.

In addition, to celebrate the end of the London 2012 Paralympic Games and handover to Rio 2016 at the 'Live Screen Site' in Waterloo Place, DJ Dolores will present new act Stank and perform a trailer gig before and after the closing ceremony on September 9 at 6:30pm and at 10:30pm.

With his roots in the mangue beat scene of northern Brazil (Pernambuco/Recife), dub, drum’n’bass, DJ Dolores has produced a unique blend of Brazilian roots music and bass heavy breakbeat electronic music.

His bands are formed mostly of live instrumentation combined with himself on decks. His album with the Orchestra Santa Massa, Contraditorio? won the BBC’s Club Global Section of their World Music Awards in 2004.

The event in Derry~Londonderry takes place as part of a series of events linking with Liverpool, Preston and Belo Horizonte in Brazil for the London 2012 Festival, the UK’s finale for the Cultural Olympiad and to initiate a series of events for Derry~Londonderry's City of Culture 2013 celebrations.

This is the beginning of a series of events experimenting with digital interfaces and telepresence in theatre to bring people together in the UK/Brazil through networked performance, digital workshops and intercultural dialogue for Derry~Londonderry City of Culture 2013 and leading to Rio in 2016.

The Nerve Centre events are free but booking is essential. The Live Site performance is a free public event. For more information contact the Nerve Centre Box Office on 028 7126 0562.
