Help Build The House of the Future With Curious Communities and FabLab NI

Make it a DIY day next Saturday (September 19) with FabLab NI as it takes over Ebrington and Guildhall Square for a one-day build of digitally fabricated houses and structures.

For the first time in Derry, FabLabs from the Nerve Centre and Belfast will come together combine to design, fabricate and build large-scale houses and structures in two of the city’s most iconic locations.

This free Curious Community Event is part of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Science and Innovation Programme.

Using state of the art digital design and fabrication technologies, the FabHouses will see members of the public to get involved in every stage of the process of designing, making and building the houses.

Over the course of the day the houses will rise from the ground to become fully formed structures that the public can walk around, sit in and enjoy.

John Peto, ‎Director of Education at Nerve Centre said: “The whole idea is that people get hands on with technology and really understand how computers, laser cutters and digital tools are used and the practical things that they can do for everyone. Building a house in a day is a great example of just how powerful these tools are and Curious Communities gives us a real opportunity to let the public understand that and have some fun with it all.”

The FabHouse project is taking place as part of the CultureTECH festival and is free for the public to take part. The design and build of the houses takes place in Guildhall Square and at Buildings eighty81, Ebrington from 10am - 4pm on Saturday, September 19.
