Guitar Hero Guthrie Govan Announced for Exclusive Workshop

One of the greatest living guitarists has been announced to host an intimate masterclass at the Nerve Centre as part of this year’s Rocktober celebrations.

Guthrie Govan has been hailed as the ‘virtuoso’s virtuoso’ for the reputation he holds among his fellow six string masters.  On October 4 the Essex-born performer will deliver an evening of extraordinary technical insight and demonstration to a limited audience.

Combining an unparalleled technical ability with a mastery of almost all styles, Govan is equally at home in a traditional jazz combo as he is performing death-defying ‘shred’ guitar. After being named the second ever Guitarist of the Year he set his sights on transcribing records so that others too could develop their skills and would later amass a substantial online following for his instructional YouTube videos.

Having had stints playing with Asia, The Aristocrats and others as well as lending his playing to the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Govan has primarily carved out a career as a solo artist and regularly tours with the world’s foremost axe-men.

Instrumental legend Steve Vai, who last year delivered a similarly magic night of rock schooling at the Nerve Centre, recently enlisted Govan for his Vai Academy Song Evolution Camp in New York. Indeed Vai’s playing had an unmistakable impact on Govan and has helped shape his approach in the field.

Noted American guitarist Joe Satriani said: 'What sets Guthrie apart, is that no matter what he’s doing—picking, tapping, slapping, playing legato, whatever—is that he mixes everything up gracefully and absolutely nails each approach. And all the while the music sounds natural.'

Tickets for this unmissable evening, co-presented by Rockers Reunion, are priced at £12 plus booking fee and are available now from the Nerve Centre box office and WeGotTickets.
