Generator NI – Music Business Support Programme Launches

Generator NI – Music Business Support Programme Launches

Generator NI - the new government backed music business support programme - officially launched at the Nerve Centre on September 12 during the CultureTech Festival.

The launch event included an introduction to key programme elements, opportunities and initiatives and also featured live performances from some of the region’s most exciting new artists.

The programme is funded by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL) and Invest Northern Ireland and aims to contribute to wider economic and social development by supporting a creative and vibrant music sector which achieves consistent and sustainable economic growth. The new initiative is a key element of the Executive’s efforts to grow the creative industries and promote the sector and the region on the world stage.

The three year Generator NI programme will deliver development support to artists, managers, record labels, and music publishers to assist in developing skills, new markets, networks and competencies. With a focus on collaboration, Generator NI aims to work with, support and build on the success of other music development initiatives to help drive the sustainable growth of the local industry across a number of music genres.

It will also help stimulate cross-sectoral linkages within the wider creative industries and nurture opportunities for music businesses to develop partnerships across the film and television sectors and other diverse digital platforms. Generator NI also recognises the role of music as a key driver of cultural tourism. Strengthening music industry linkages across Ireland and Britain is a key priority of the programme to further develop the region as an innovative and vibrant hub and to maximise the impact and reach of available support.

Generator NI Programme Director Ross Graham said: "NI has a strong reputation for producing outstanding creative talent; our new partnership with Generator, the UK’s leading music industry development agency, promises to parallel that success in the contribution that the music sector makes to our creative economy."
