Foyle Film Festival Submissions to Open in April

The 26th Foyle Film Festival will begin its submissions process for the 2013 Light In Motion (LIM) Awards from Tuesday April 2 and the competition will stay open until Monday September 30. This year’s competition is starting earlier and running longer due to the huge number of films entered into competition in 2012, which led to the competition deadline being extended to meet the influx of submissions.

The Foyle Film Festival, now in its 26th year, is one of only a handful of International festivals with Oscar® affiliation and BAFTA recognition. The festival offers filmmakers, animators and artists a unique platform to screen their films, network with industry professionals and gain access to the international market.

The Festival, organised by the Nerve Centre, and funded and supported by Northern Ireland Screen and Derry City Council, delivers a comprehensive programme of documentaries, short films and feature films from all over the world; a full programme of educational events for schools, youth, and adults and an impressive array of industry networking events and panel discussions.

Recipients of the LIM Award qualify for consideration in the Short Films Category of the Annual Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.

Foyle Film Festival is now an IMDb Qualifying Festival, granting all eligible film submissions a fast-tracked title page on

The Three Competition Categories under LIM are:

  • Best Documentary
