Exciting Opportunity to Combine Art and Technology For Local Artists
The Fab Lab opened in May of this year and uses state-of-the-art technology, such as a 3D printer, laser cutter, 3D router, vinyl cutter and milling machine, to allow users to design and manufacture almost anything that they can imagine.
The workshop is aimed at generating ideas and exploring the different ways this exciting fabrication technology can be used to create arts and crafts. This opportunity is ideal for professional or amateur artists already actively involved in design or craft-making, or any artist with an interest in digital technology.
Those who are involved in the workshop will also be invited to a special Fab Lab / Art Take Part mash up event being held on September 21 as part of this year’s Culture Night celebrations. The event will be used to showcase the Fab Lab’s capabilities as well as the creations that are developed at the workshop.
The Nerve Centre’s Fab Lab is one of the first to open in the UK and joins other major cities around the world in exploring the possibilities of this exciting new technology.
Fab Labs were born from an outreach project by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in inner-city Boston in 2005. Since then Fab Labs have quickly spread around the world. There are now more than 130 Fab Labs from the inner cities of the USA to the villages of Africa.
The workshop will be held on Saturday September 15, 12-4 pm, at the Nerve Centre, 7-8 Magazine Street, Derry~Londonderry, BT48 6HJ. To put your name forward for the workshop or to find out more email Joe Carlin, email@example.com by Friday August 24. Please include a short summary of your particular interest in art / crafts / digital technology.
