Carpentry and Construction Job Opportunities With Temple

Artichoke are seeking four experienced carpenters/skilled construction labourers to join the project team for Temple, a large-scale temporary timber artwork to be produced in Derry-Londonderry in February and March 2015.

The carpenters will complete the layout, framing, and assembly of the structure, working under the guidance of the artist, his crew, and a site manager. Key duties will include:

  • Following blueprints and architectural framing plans;
  • Measuring, cutting and shaping timber frames and joints using hand tools, as well as power tools;
  • Constructing building frameworks, assembling all framing sections and fixtures/hardware;
  • Helping erect, level, and install the framework with the aid of rigging equipment and cranes; Instructing and directing crew and other construction helpers.

Applicants should be knowledgeable about structural framing and carpentry following CAD plans and architectural drawings, with extensive joinery experience in measuring and cutting wood, using power tools, air tools, and/or hand tools. Applicants should also have experience of onsite construction management, including an understanding of structural engineering principles and onsite health and safety procedures, able to work at height with physical stamina and strength.

The postholder will be required to work full time from Thursday, February 5 – Friday, March 13. Days will be a minimum of 8 hours per day. Some evening and weekend work may be required and the postholder will be required to be flexible. Hourly rate of £14 per hour. Applicants should be unemployed and between the ages of 18 and 65 years old at the time of application.

The postholder will be responsible for their own tax and national insurance payments.
